Char-Broil 4651330 Tabletop Grill Review

Char-Broil 4651330 Tabletop GrillI've had this BBQ for over 3 years and use it almost every week to drag it to beaches, camping etc. It's very portable and gets the job done. I've cooked chicken, pork, hotlinks, corn and just about anything you can think of on it just fine.

It does go out on occasion when it's very windy, but you just light it back up. There's one trick that I find helps a lot, I wrap the grille in special BBQ aluminum foil (that has holes in it). It seems to make the grill more efficient -- and also, I've never cleaned it since I just put new aluminum foil every time I use it.

I love this grill and have recommended it to many friends -- it's cheap and has a perfect form factor. You can even put your gas tank, tongs, lighter and other accessories into the grill while you're carrying it to the beach -- awesome!

Fuego EA00APS 21-Inch Pizza Stone for Fuego's Element Gas Grill Review

Fuego EA00APS 21 inch Pizza Stone for Fuego's Element Gas GrillThe Pizza Stone is very heavy and almost 3/4" thick.I use it with my Element Grill by Fuego but it can be used on any other grill or oven (if you can get it to fit).It takes about 20 minutes to heat up to 500 degrees. The pizza is ready in about 6 to 12 minutes and is amazing.Crispy browned crust and toppings are heated perfectly. You can bake other thing on it but all I've used it for is pizza.

Char Broil Magnum 500 Quantum Infrared Three-Burner Gas Grill, with Sideburner Review

Char Broil Magnum 500 Quantum Infrared Three-Burner Gas Grill, with SideburnerI have always been a wood fire BBQ kind of guy - I like meat cooked over a *real* flame, and even charcoal has always seemed to me like cheating (though I've been using a charcoal Weber kettle for 20 years).I never even considered a gas grill for myself for these reasons.

For my senior Mom & Dad, however, the task of lighting charcoal, etc was too much hassle, so this past weekend I went out shopping for a gas grill for them. After going back and forth between three different home centers and Costco, I settled on this unit as by far the best "bang for the buck" in terms of build quality, performance characteristics, and ease of use for under $500.I seriously considered going up to the Weber Genesis, but for 50% more, I just couldn't quite justify it. My requirement was good quality for under $500.

After about a one-hour erector set project putting it all together (not difficult, just time consuming), I fired it up and let it burn off for about 20 minutes. I was immediately impressed with how hot the cooking surfaces became (and how quickly). The nifty temp sensors at the grate level registered 700+ degrees!

After burn-off, I tried it out with what I have found to be one of the trickiest things to grill over open flame (gas or wood/charcoal): raw marinated chicken parts. To be done right, the chicken has to be crispy on the outside - not burned, and moist and completely cooked on the inside. With unevenly shaped and sized chicken parts, this can be devilishly tricky.

But with this grill, I found I was able to keep the left most burner at full throttle, and the two right burners at low settings and get creative. This allowed me to beautifully sear the skin using the left side of the grill, then finish cooking on the right side (with the BBQ closed). The results were amazing.

One of my favorite things about this grill turned out to be that it is really easy to add wood chips for smoke flavor.Because there is a perforated metal "screen" (the infrared reflector) under the food, it catches the wood chips and holds them at a perfect smoking temperature where they will smolder but not flare up.

Speaking of flare-ups, this grill did NOT exhibit flare-ups at all.Even with fatty pieces of chicken that had been marinated in an olive oil mixture, there was almost no burning or smoking, even on the "searing" side of the hot grill.

When turned down low, I also found the evenness of the heating surface to be impressively consistent, and the large stainless "grill" surface not only made great marks on the food, but also did not stick as badly as most coated steel or iron grill surfaces do.

On the con side, I can imagine that the perforated screen is going to require some periodic maintenance to keep it clean. The good news is that it comes out in three easy-to-handle sections shaped like little trays, each holding a section of grill. You pull the "tray" up and out, then lift the grill surface out of the tray making both very easy to clean.

One final note - I also prepared a boneless leg of lamb on the grill using a "generic" rotisserie (Grill-Pro brand).it *barely* fit between the closed lid and the grill surface, but again, the infrared cooking system worked beautifully. I warmed it up at full throttle for about 5-10 minutes before mounting the marinated lamb roast, then allowed it to sear beautifully for about 15 minutes. Then I turned the burners all down to their lowest settings, threw on a thumb-sized stick of oak from one of our trees, and dropped the lid.

An hour and a half later, we enjoyed one of the best lamb roasts I have ever had!

Highly recommended, especially if you can get it for the price I paid (which was about $[...] less than Amazon's currently listed price)

Pros:
*Great heat output for searing
*Even distribution of heat for predictable results
*Good low-temp performance
*Easy to use wood chips for flavor
*Good build quality in the hood and firebox

Cons:
*Bottom 1/2 of construction is a bit flimsy, but better than many at this price point
*Requires pre-heating for about 10 minutes for best results
*Periodic clean-up probably required for optimum performance

Weber 1710001 Summit S-420 Propane Gas Grill, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 1710001 Summit S-420 Propane Gas Grill, Stainless SteelI bought this grill for my recent let's say, milestone, birthday.I researched grills for over 2 months.I knew Weber was a good brand but wished to consider other options. My research always pointed back to "buy a Weber".Weber's customer service was always rated A-1, they've been bbq/grilling experts for years, and you know they'll be around in the future. The one kicker for the Summit S-420 model over a stainless Weber Genesis S-320 was a comment from a friend of mine with a nice stainless Jenn-Air model found at Lowes. He wished the rotisserie was positioned higher on the Jenn-Air.In my assessment of grills, I had never considered the importance of the rotisserie height. After looking at the Genesis S-320 and Jenn-Air models again, it became clear that a turkey or large roast might not work on the rotisserie of the other models. The Summit S-420 and other Summit grills solves this problem by providing a much higher rotisserie position. Add to that a much taller cover, and you'll see there is greater height for convection around whatever you're cooking.I've grilled hamburgers, salmon, T-bone steaks, and slow cooked smoked pork ribs - all to perfection. No need for a high end smoker feature that permanently reduces grill space - an aluminum foil tray with wood chips atop one of the burners works fine. The Snap-Jet individual burner ignition system was tricky at first.Once you actually read the instructions - Hey I'm a guy - you'll find the technology is easy and reliable.Quality is the final key to this grill. The stainless everything is impressive and high quality. The side-burner is more than an afterthought and mimics many high-end kitchen gas cook-tops.Even the doors of the storage area below are double sided for sturdiness.I usually have a minor stint of buyer's remorse after an expensive purchase.I have none. With this grill I can proudly say it's one of the best purchases/investments I've made in years!!!!

Camp Chef SPG-90B Big Gas 3 Sports Grill, Black/Red Review

Camp Chef SPG-90B Big Gas 3 Sports Grill, Black/RedThe Camp Chef SPG-90B has been a perfect choice for a camp stove and the BBQ box makes a good combination on top of this 3-burner stove. It is much sturdier than it looks in photos. It sets up in 2 minutes, and really IS portable despite having 3 burners. We wanted to look at one in person, but couldn't find a retailer anywhere in the area so we took a chance on buying this on the internet. Delivery was FAST!However, the photo on the internet shows a rack underneath and the description clearly says that it comes with a rack underneath. FYI - It doesn't. You have to buy one separately and it's $20-$30 from other sources. We do not regret this purchase though.

Minden Grill Company MMB1000 Master Propane Gas Grill, Black Review

Minden Grill Company MMB1000 Master Propane Gas Grill, BlackThis is a beautifully constructed grill made from heavy duty materials. I found it to be very elegant looking. Assembly was easy as all the major components are already assembled so it is just a matter of attaching the sub-assemblies. The fitted cover is heavy duty and superb.

I was disappointed with the performance, however. Despite having a smaller grill surface and lower hood than my old, cheap, Fiesta grill, which should equate to higher temperatures, the cooking times were longer on the Minden. Also the grill had very uneven temperatures. Three hamburgers, placed in a line, front to back, would all cook differently.

I live in Nevada and had wanted to support a local company. I called them and they said they'd inspect it to check whether or not it was operating properly. They did and said it was. I told them I was not happy with its performance and they arranged a full refund. So customer service is excellent.

I also did not like that there was practically no vertical lip at the back of the grill to back-stop hamburgers if you try to pick them up with a spatula (and need to slide them into something) and the control knobs do not have clock face hash marks to line up against to indicate amount of heat, rather an expanding arrow making it difficult to finely adjust the heat settings.

I would recommend getting one from a dealer with a liberal return policy but understand that it will be difficult to re-pack to return it if you have it shipped to you.

Weber 1427001 Performer Charcoal Grill, Green Review

Weber 1427001 Performer Charcoal Grill, GreenI've had a variety of grilling / bbq products. Primarily Weber, given their history of solid products and great customer service.

I've always been a charcoal purist. Apartment living, however, has made me consider propane as a primary heat source for grilling. I recently bought the Weber Q220. It's a nice product, but it just doesn't get as hot as I need it to. So I sold my Q220 and decided to go with what I really wanted, which was this Weber Performer.

It's not petite - it takes up a good 3-4 feet width-wise and it's about 3 feet high.

Charcoal had always previously required me to get a chimney starter, as I'm not into soaking my briquets with lighter fluid. That meant a lot of smoke and wait time as I waited for the coals to get hot.

The Weber performer, however, uses the little, easy to find propane tanks (hardware stores, your local drugstore's seasonal merch section) to blast the coals with propane-powered fire in 10 mins. The coals are ashen-grey and ready to go. The grill gets over 600+ degrees F so you can really get a solid sear on whatever you're cooking.

The whole setup is solid and well thought out. The one touch lighting system works like a breeze and the cook-top / prep area is a huge benefit, as is the tilt-out charcoal holder.

The only thing I'd suggest: google Craycort cast-iron grates and get a 22.5 inch cast-iron grate for this. It's a bit expensive at $85 but it's worth EVERY PENNY. If you've done a lot of grilling, you know you need cast iron to retain heat and really sear your food. I did and it makes this setup into the ne plus ultra of all charcoal grills and remedies the only weakness of this setup, which is the stainless steel grates that it comes with. Ditch those for Craycort's cast iron grates. You'll be glad you did.

I love this product as much as I can love an inanimate product. And that's a lot.

The start-up function requires a disposable 14.1- or 16.4-ounce LP cylinder (sold separately)--a 14.1-ounce tank provides up to 12 10-minute ignitions and a 16.4-ounce tank provides up to 14 10-minute ignitions. Char Broil T480 Three-Burner 40,000 BTU Gas Grill, with Sideburner Review

Char Broil T480 Three-Burner 40,000 BTU Gas Grill, with SideburnerWhen I purchased the Char-Broil T480 3-Burner 40,000 BTU Gas Grill I did so for several reasons: features, reliability and price. For me the Char-Broil had more of what was important than any other grill I looked at.

Assembly:
On a difficulty rating I'd give this a 7 and I've put together everything from Bikes to Ikea Furniture. Out of the box this didn't scare me, but it did take about 45-60 minutes from start to finish.

Use & Features:
It has an electronic ignition for all of the burners. My only complaint so far is that the button is rubber and dried up very quickly from the heat. Mine detached from the grill, but still works as long as it doesn't get lost.
The warming rack although a great idea, hasn't really been useful to us. Even though it's raised up on the back portion of the grill it takes up too much space and makes getting to what is grilling beneath it very difficult.
The side burner is great for heating up sauces, baked beans, making grilled onions or even frying bacon.
Temperature gauge on outer front is useful. I'm not sure of accuracy, but it has helped me pre-heat the grill when I do things like tri-tip or beer can chicken.
The two wheels on the bottom make it easy for me to maneuver around on our deck and also for storing.

Grilling:
I used to be a firm believer of grilling only with briquettes, but when you want to do it as often as we do it's just not possible. During the summer we use the grill about 2-4 times a week and during the winter we still use it at least once a week.I have become very comfortable with this grill, knowing how long to preheat, how long to cook and what works best. The 3 separate burners allow me to heat only the grates we need. Most often it's one for just a small dinner, but we have had all three going when cooking for a large crowd.

Clean-Up:
After cooking I give the grates and initial scraping with the Mr. Bar-B-Q Wide Grill Brush and then I usually turn the burners I had been using up to HIGH for about 60 seconds. This seems to burn off any excess food and keeps it ready to go for next time. As long as you take care of this grill you should be able to get many years of service and delicious food from it!

Storing: We purchased a cover for it since we do have it out year round (and in rainy Seattle no less). This Weber 7555 Premium Cover, although not meant for our grill, has been our favorite one.The quality of the materials and weight of it have kept ours clean and covered even through some pretty bad storms. We figured it we were investing the money in a grill; we should invest in this too.

Weber 6501 6' Adapter Hose For Weber Q Series & Gas Go-Anywhere Review

Weber 6501 6' Adapter Hose For Weber Q Series & Gas Go-AnywhereApparently this same hose is packaged under several different Weber part numbers for some strange reason.Buy this hose only if you have no squirrels or other rodents where you live. They like the taste (maybe it's grease that drips on it), and bite right through causing a leak. They ruined mine after just 1 month of use. A far better quality product that does the same thing is the Freedom Grill FG-50HA hose. It is stainless steel braid hose, and animal proof. It is slightly shorter, but still plenty long enough to reach from the Q grill at table height to a 20 lb cylinder on the ground. Thanks for earlier reviews that point to the FG-50HA. Ducane 31732101 Affinity 3100 Natural Gas Grill, Black Review

Ducane 31732101 Affinity 3100 Natural Gas Grill, BlackThe BBQ was received as promised, delivery was fast and prompt. Delivery crew were professionals, and effective. It was a bit of a hassle putting it together, it took me about an hour, but no big deal, after all it IS a big product. Just pay close attention to all the parts, and follow the step-by-step instructions carefully, and you will be fine. It looks scarry at first, with all the parts, nuts and bolts, but as I said before, No Problem. Instructions are clear, with good illustrations.
Upon turning it on, the BBQ ignited instantly, and worked flawlessly. Heat distribution is good. This is our second natural Gas BBQ, and it is much better than the first one that cost 3 times as much.
All in all I am happy with the product, and definately it worth the price.
Happy BBQing.

Weber 3747001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Dark Green Review

Weber 3747001 Genesis E-310 Propane Grill, Dark GreenWhen it came time for me to buy a grill, I looked immediately to the Weber Genesis series, mainly because my family has always owned Webers and we've never been disappointed by them.My dad's prior Genesis grill lasted about 10 years before needing to be replaced, and likely would have lasted longer if it weren't for the harsh South Florida climate (the humid air down there is really rough on anything metal that's left outside).

I opted for the E-310 as I didn't need a side burner and didn't quite feel like paying up for the stainless steel model (which is nice, but hard to keep clean!).

This is a GREAT all around grill.IMO, there's nothing worse than a cheap gas grill - they don't maintain even heat, they don't get hot enough, and they often have the heat source too close to the food.I have a feeling a lot of the charcoal snobs out there (and I admit I used to be one myself) believe so ardently in charcoal's superiority partly because they've compared it only to a cheapo gas grill - guess what, it isn't the "rich smokey flavor" that makes charcoal grills great, it's the heat (they get hotter than most of the cheaper gas grills available) and the evenness of the heat. When buying a gas grill, you DO get what you pay for - and the Weber Genesis series is worth it.My Weber will heat to 600+ degrees, maintains even heat, and the heat source is far enough from the food to limit flare ups.

I've had this for about 2 weeks now and even I'm surprised how much I use it - almost every night (and THAT IMO is the main advantage of gas vs. charcoal, this thing is so convenient that I use it probably 5 times a week even though I live alone so I'm usually cooking for one). Thus far I've cooked steaks, pork chops, chicken breasts, and chicken wings on it (as well as sides like corn on the cob, asparagus, and new potatoes, all done on the grill of course), and it's ALL come out great.I'm very happy with it and I'm sure it'll only get better as the grill gets broken in and as I get more experienced using it.

If I've helped convince you to spring for the E-310, there's one thing you should consider (aside from whether to go stainless steel and whether to go with a side burner - those are both personal preferences) that you may not know about: there's a choice between cast iron and stainless still grill grates.I'm pretty sure the one offered on Amazon has the cast iron. Now, in most cases I think cast iron is great for cooking (it really holds the heat in better and gives a superior sear vs. other metals), HOWEVER cast iron does not hold up very well when left outside, especially if you live in a humid climate. Also, it's harder to clean. For this reason, if you live in a humid climate I'd recommend going for the version of the E-310 that has a stainless steel grill, you can find them if you look around. You can still get that cast iron sear when you want it by simply buying a Lodge cast iron skillet or griddle (available here on Amazon for < $20) and using it right on the Weber grill for certain dishes - I did this for a Filet Mignon the other night and it produced an excellent sear.

Overall, 5 stars for the Weber Genesis for a great cooking experience AND great Weber quality that should last you 10 years or more, if properly taken care of.

Kuuma 83727 Profile Portable Outdoor Gas Grill Review

Kuuma 83727 Profile Portable Outdoor Gas GrillMy husband and I love this grill. This is actually a marine BBQ and meant for boats but we got it because we live in a small city apartment and it's perfect for our balcony and is landlord approved.

The construction is actually very solid, the grill is made from stainless steel which is not only an attractive feature, but easy to maintain as well.It is very easy to take the grill apart to clean the parts. The previous reviewer commented on not being able to attach a gas canister sideways, but I don't know why you would need to do that or even want to.From my knowledge gas canisters are dangerous and only to be used properly, connecting it sideways would make me think it would leak and be dangerous. We actually bought a mount for ours and use that to support it, it's a black base type thing.Again, attractive in looks and doesn't take up much space on our already tiny balcony. The whole design is a very modern, streamlined design which fits into our decor, may seem silly to the average griller but trust me, it matters to their wives. Its nicer than having a huge half ton grill that takes up way too much space and is impossible to clean.

As far as performance, the grill is amazing. We grill on it literally EVERY night. We have two children under the age of two so fast, easy, healthy dinners are mandatory for us.Every night we grill fish, chicken, veggies, the best part of this grill is how fast it heats up.Dinner can be done very quickly, which helps out tremendously. The grill has lasted amazingly through our numerous uses.Again I believe it's a marine grill and probably meant to be used for those romantic nights out on the boat and not as a dinner staple as we use it-but it works for us.We could probably get rid of our stove, but not our grill.

It's a great product, numerous uses, and lasts through continual use.The only reason I gave it four stars and not five is because now I see the company has an electric version and I would rather have that one so I never have to worry about buying gas canisters but can just plug it in.

Weber 4431001 Spirit E-320 Propane Grill, Black Review

Weber 4431001 Spirit E-320 Propane Grill, BlackI searched around and found Amazon to have the lowest price with free delivery which is quite costly on other sites. Received the grill when Amazon said I would, in good condition. I found the assembly of this grill to be the easiest I have ever put together, as most grills have so many nuts, bolts etc, this had one package. I was done in about 1 hour. All the parts fit together without having to force anything.
We have used this grill almost every day since getting it and we are amazed at the difference in the way this grill cooks as compared to our previous grill, which was a Char-Broil Stainless Steel Commercial from Lowes. There is no comparison, the Weber is soooooo much better. A minor point but a good one, the igniter actually works, the first time every time. I would highly recommend this grill. It's pricey, but so far (about a month) it has been worth every penny.

Weber 3770001 Genesis S-310 LP Gas Grill, Stainless Steel Review

Weber 3770001 Genesis S-310 LP Gas Grill, Stainless SteelI grill almost everyday in summer and quite a bit even in the winter. So I tend to be a bit hard on my grills and I had never really spent much on my grills and I replace every 2-4 years. This time around though, I fell in love with some of the newer stainless steel grills out there and on some of them it appears that you get more than from Weber: more grilling space, or more BTUs, or just bigger. So I decided to go digging a bit.

I checked consumer reports and this Weber grill is rated the #1 grill out there for the following reasons:

a) very even heating
b) quick heating
c) very solid construction
d) low propensity for flareups

Consumer reports brought out some of the more glaring shortfalls to other grills that were not easily apparent then blinded by all that stainless steel at the local warehouse store.Armed with some consumer reports data I went back to the local stores that have these grills and I started to see what they were saying: plastic where Weber was aluminium, solid doors vs thin with empty backing, open cabinets where Weber has fully enclosed cabinet, cast steel casing where Weber's is Aluminium.Try as I might, I couldn't find the exact model I wanted so after much deliberation I bought the Webber Genesis S-310 from Amazon.I always order from Amazon but I was a bit hesitant to order due to a review of someone getting a dented grill. But since I really wanted the S-310 and I trust Amazon, I went ahead and ordered and everything arrived perfect (Thank you Amazon and Eagle - whoever you are).

The Bad:
1) It arrived in a box factory disassembled into a bunch of parts

The Good:
1) It was very well packaged in the box (additionally, most stainless parts had a plastic film to keep from scratching)
2) It shipped and arrived very quickly (within 3 days of ordering - standard shipping)
3) No dings or scratches on the grill or even on the box (Eagle did a great job on this one)
4) The fact that the grill was disassembled - which allowed me to get to know the grill as I assembled it and raelly appreciate the construction
5) Instructions were clear
6) I have to say that in putting this grill together took about one hour of work and it really had me appreciate the strength of Weber's construction on this product. Its frankly amazing how well constructed this grill is.
7) Construction of this grill is made of stainless steel and cast aluminium with plastic only in the wheels (which are very tough), hose, knobs and a couple of small fittings.
8) The undercarriage is enclosed on all four sides with gorgeous stainless doors which are thick and fully whose back is also stainless.
9)Many details were taken into account, there are adjustments so that the knobs are fully centered.
10) There's a chain to hold a lighting match and the lighting hole is neatly placed on the front right corner of the grill although the grill has electronic ignition.
11) The temperature guage was placed in the front center of the grill and is large and easy to see.
12) The knobs are located on top of the grill which is fantastic if you have small children. It makes it much harder for children to reach the knobs and turn them
13) It doesn't come with a tank (I have 3 so that wasn't a problem)
14) Comes with a drip pan
15) It doesn't have brickettes but comes with very highly angled triangular baffles to cover the burners...the angle of the baffles lessens the likelihood of flareups because grease falls down before it catches on fire
16) Very good warranty on all materials and workmanship
17) It has a tank measure so you know when you're low on propane
18) This grill gets hot.I turned it on high and turned around for a few minutes and it was up to 650 degrees and the flavorizer bars were glowing bright red hot....wow -- never had a grill do that before!
19) Very even heating. The burners run left to right on this grill vs front to back.Always in the past, I've had a problem with the back of my grill being hotter than the front. With this grill the heating is more even. There are pros and cons of left to right arrangement of burners vs front to back and probably beyond this review just be aware potential buyer --- left to right works very well for me and I find I can do indirect cooking nicely too.

Grilling with this product is fantastic. This is the best grill I have ever owned and I'm glad I own a Weber Genesis S-310.You might find cheaper grills or bigger grills for the same money or higher BTUs but overall, I think you'll be hard pressed to find a "better grill" out there.

I was apprehensive at ordering such a large product from Amazon but amazed at how fast I got it and the store perfect condition it arrived in.One very happy Weber Owner and Amazon shopper.

Weber 1421001 Performer Charcoal Grill, Black Review

Weber 1421001 Performer Charcoal Grill, BlackWhile I love my Genesis S-320, I decided I wanted to get in to charcoal grilling when time allows. Without question, I was going to buy a Weber, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with the One-Touch Gold, One-Touch Platinum (knowing I'd still buy accessories for both) or the Performer.

What really sold me was the propane ignition and the cart. Having this much workspace outside is invaluable, and I just don't trust larger items like turkey to the tables on the One-Touch Platinum or the Weber 7413 Work Table that I would have got for the Gold. And when you compare the price of the Platinum to the Performer the only reason not to get the Performer is if you're completely uninterested in the propane ignition.

Ordering from Amazon was the usual experience. With Prime, my Performer was on my porch two days after I ordered it via UPS. Despite being nearly 100 pounds, this doesn't need to go through one of the local logistics companies that are usually used with big items, so that was a huge plus in my book.

After inspecting the box for damage, the first thing I looked for was where the Performer was made. As I thought (and in spite of what some have said on different grilling forums) it clearly says "Designed and engineered in the USA" right above "Made in the USA". So, yes, the Performer is (as of April 2010, when Amazon shows this model number as "new") made in the United States.

This being my third Weber grill, I didn't expect the pieces to be pristine, and wasn't shocked to see that there were a few minor paint scrapes, despite the box showing absolutely zero evidence of being mishandled. This is the same experience as when I bought my first Genesis at a local store, and my next Genesis, and... Basically, if you're expecting every piece of a Weber grill to be scratch-free out of the box, you're going to be disappointed, so be prepared.

Assembly was pretty straightforward. As they often are, the Weber manual was easy to follow and well illustrated. All you need to put this together is a hammer (for the wheels), a Phillips screwdriver, and a 3/8" wrench. I put it together by myself in about 30 minutes with no problems at all. I was mildly amused (and at the same time, a bit annoyed) that the bottom of the kettle has post holes for legs. The only thing that's different on the kettle between the Performer and One-Touch Gold is two metal flaps that let you mount it to the cart.

The Performer can use the "fat green" propane canisters that you usually see on camping equipment, as well as the type of canisters you'd usually use with a torch kit. I was quite disappointed to discover that the redesigned Performer still uses the old red-button "spark-plug" ignition, instead of the electric battery-based ignition used on all of their other grills.

That brings me to the loss of a star. There are a few other design problems with the Performer that are disappointing. The first, which I haven't seen depicted in any picture of this item here or on Weber's site, is that the propane tank hangs down below the control panel. It looks kind of chintzy, and frankly, at this price, it shouldn't. The other design annoyance is with the holder for the top of the kettle. It's almost all metal, and it's quite rough. The first time you use it, you're going to put some nice silver scratches on your black lid. I'm experimenting with high-temp silicone on the rough edges, to see if that solves the problem.

Another warning: At the time of this review, Weber's site has a mix of pictures for the current Performer. Some depict the lid with a small, removable thermometer on the handle. Some (correctly) depict the more Genesis-like thermometer mounted between the handle and edge of the lid. Additionally, Amazon's picture depicts the Thermoset surface as black, it's really more of a grey color.

All things being equal, it's a very nice grill. You get the sturdy cart, One-Touch cleaning system with ash catcher, hinged cooking grate, Char-Basket holders, gas ignition, and a place to keep your charcoal.

Is it a crazy-good value? Well... that's hard to say. If you start off with a One-Touch Silver or Gold and start adding accessories, the price isn't unreasonable. If anything, it's like buying most of your accessories in one box. But if you don't care a lot about the ignition or big cart, you're probably much better off getting a One-Touch.
